Association Meeting - NDR Revaluation 2017-18 - Liz Thomas VOA
At our November meeng Liz Thomas, Appeals Team Leader, VOA delivered a topical session on Revaluation, providing an update on the work the VOA has completed so far in delivering the new non‐domesic rates ratng list and giving an insight into the work now underway in response to appeals.

Association Meeting - Horsefields - Latest Developments in Insolvency and Recovery
Hemal Mistry
Director - Horsfields Financial Consultants and Insolvency Practitioners
Hemal is a qualified insolvency practitioner, obtaining his insolvency licence in June 2011. Hemal has been working in the insolvency profession since 2007 having previously been involved in the automotive and logistics sector based between the UK and Europe.
Hemal has been involved with a number of corporate and personal insolvency cases including a national television broadcaster and a large furniture retailer. He is currently involved in recovery of assets from 2 off shore companies with combined assets in excess of £5 million pounds with both companies owing substantial amounts to Local Authorities in respect of NNDR.
Hemal is a director at Horsfields Insolvency Practitioners based in Bury, Greater Manchester and together with John Lee heads up their Local Authority Unit, providing insolvency services and technical support to Local Authorities across England and Wales.
He is a member of the IRRV, the Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA) and Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) and also sits on the IPA Examination and Training Committee.
John Lee
Consultant – Horsfields Financial Consultants and Insolvency Practitioners
John Lee is a Chartered Accountant and Licensed Insolvency Practitioner with many years practical Insolvency experience as an Officeholder having been appointed as Trustee in Bankruptcy in more than 1,000 cases over a 20 year period.
He has a wide range of experience in all forms of Insolvency Procedure which include Bankruptcy, Liquidations, Receivership and Administrations and Voluntary Arrangements.
In advising creditors faced with Insolvency scenarios he has particular expertise in Local Authority debt recovery policies and insolvency protocols. He is a member of the IRRV, currently a Member of R3 General Technical Committee and also it’s Personal Insolvency Committee and is a member of R3 North West Regional Committee.
John together with Hemal heads up Horsfields Local Authority Unit which specialises in providing insolvency services and technical support to Local Authorities across England and Wales.

Association Meeting - Ibrahim Hasan - Act Now Training
"Our Christmas Association meeting on the 14th December 2016 saw Ibrahim Hasan from Act Now Training deliver an excellent session on the forthcoming changes in Data Protection.
Ibrahim is a recognised expert on data protection, freedom of information and surveillance law. He writes for the Law Society Gazette as well as other professional journals and is an occasional guest lecturer on the University of Northumbria's LLM in Information Rights Law. Ibrahim was recently made an Honorary Fellow of the Information and Records Management Society.
Ibrahim’s expert and insightful delivery of the session was greatly received by all who attended with many now going away to forward plan for the imminent changes brought about by the New General Data Protection Regulation".

General Data Protection Regulation Training day was held on Friday 9th February at the Bod Erw, St Asaph, LL17 0LA.
The session was delivered by Tim Turner from 2040 Training, who is considered an expert in Data Protection and the forthcoming changes under GDPR (due on the 25th May 2018).

IRRV North and Mid-Wales Accounts 2016
The association had the pleasure of welcoming Anne Marie Read to speak to at this years meeting Anne Marie Reas is the Senior Management Consultant in Performance Development Team (DWP)
After graduating from Surrey University Anne-Marie joined DWP in 1993 in a variety of operational and Project roles. Most recently delivering Projects involving changes to ESA.
She joined Housing Delivery Division PDT in July 2015 primarily working with LAs to improve performance but has recently been a key enabler for the improvements to the HB fraud referral process.
On a personal note, Anne-Marie has been married for nearly 23 years. She has 2 daughters, Emily who is working in Corporate Banking and Annie who is 8 going on 15. Anne-Marie spends most of her free time either as a foundation school governor or as a catholic Eucharistic minister.
